About
Emmanuel Croset is a Johannesburg-based photojournalist and fixer whose work examines how people navigate
financial and social hierarchies, politics, religion, and cultural practices.
Trained at the Market Photo Workshop (2019), he is currently a stringer for Agence France-Presse (AFP), with work
featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, Le Monde,
Internazionale, El País, among others. His assignments have included coverage of presidential elections in Côte
d'Ivoire in 2025, major political events, and breaking news across South Africa. In 2021, he was selected to take part
in the Canon Student Development Programme.
His freelance clients also include UN agencies and the European Commission. His assignments have ranged from
covering refugee programs to corporate events.
Beyond photography, Emmanuel has worked as a fixer for ARTE Reportage, NRK, TF1, and others, facilitating access
to key communities, managing logistics and budgets, and identifying key interviewees and locations.
Emmanuel believes in photography's ability to bridge gaps in understanding and evoke empathy. Through his work,
he aims to bring audiences closer to the realities of different communities, prompting deeper engagement with
